Butter chicken is a common Indian meal. It’s created with chicken, spices, tomatoes, and cream. The tastiest butter chicken you can cook at home is this creamy version with true flavor. Butter chicken is served with naan or basmati rice.
Ingredients
- 2 pounds boneless chicken breasts (skinless, cut into 1-inch pieces)
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons olive oil (divided)
- 3 teaspoons curry powder (divided)
- 1 medium onion (thinly sliced)
- 3 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger (finely chopped)
- 3 tablespoons butter (divided)
- 1 pinch of white pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups tomato puree
- 1/2 cup heavy cream (or evaporated milk)
- 3 cups cooked basmati rice, optional
Directions
- assemble the components.
- Place the chicken pieces, 1 tablespoon of olive oil, 2 teaspoons of curry powder, and lemon juice in a medium bowl.
- Chicken should be coated, then covered, and left aside to rest.
- Warm up the remaining olive oil and one tablespoon of butter in a large, medium-sized skillet.
- For one minute, add the onion, garlic, and ginger.
- Add the remaining butter and curry powder. Good stirring.
- Add the tomato puree, pepper, and salt. Stir frequently while simmering the mixture for 5 minutes.
- Marinated chicken pieces and their juices are mixed in the skillet.
- The chicken should be cooked properly to 165 F, you can measure it with an instant-read thermometer
- The cooking process should take around 11 to 15 minutes after bringing the chicken to a boil.
- Add the heavy cream and combine. After one more minute of cooking.
- After turning off the heat, give the chicken 2 to 5 minutes to rest.
- Chicken should be served with basmati rice.
